Microsoft Band 2 leaks show a more wrist-friendly wearable

Microsoft

Nearly a year after the Microsft Band came out, the company may be gearing up to release a new one. Leaked information and images show the next iteration of the company's fitness band, possibly named the Microsoft Band 2.

According to MicrosoftInsider, the band (codenamed "Envoy") seems to take some design elements from Samsung's Gear Fit device. While the first Microsoft Band had an awkward, uncomfortable design, the new one appears to solve this with an all-curved construction and metal accents. Judging by the rendered images, we could also see a different type of clasp on the Band 2, which would be a much needed upgrade from the first's pinch-prone closure.

The Band also seems to keep the long, rectangular touchscreen as the original, as well as two physical buttons on the bottom edge of the device. Aside from design, we don't know much about the Microsoft Band 2 in terms of new features. Some rumors claim it could come with upgraded sensors, including an altimeter for height-change detection while climbing stairs, as well as a Starbucks partnership that would allow people to pay for drinks by connecting their Starbucks card to the band.
